The Alleycats

The Smartest Cats In Town !

The Alleycats are a polished six-piece outfit these days, playing a very broad cross-section of 50's rock'n'roll.
Their extensive repertoire stretches from rockabilly, through swing-jive, rhythm'n'blues, to doo-wop and includes classic hits from most of the major fifties stars.

The band has been around the UK rock'n'roll scene for ten years now, starting out as a quartet, but a series of changes has meant that only one of the original four members is still playing on a regular basis.

Yet such is the closeness of the rock'n'roll community that most of the current crew have played together for many years in previous combos. This makes for a great group atmosphere.

For several years the Alleycats sported striking bowling shirts with a leopardskin motif.
But at the end of 2004 they acquired a splendid set of patterned tuxedo jackets, which they wore with proper dress shirts and black tie.
This has earned them the epithet "The Smartest Cat

They still keep that look for most functions, but are usually a little more relaxed on the rock'n'roll circuit.
The jackets are beginning to show the incredible amount of wear they've had, but still look great over a black shirt!

The Alleycats are based in SE London.
They were formed in 1998, but have had quite a few changes since then.
Only surviving member of the original four piece line-up, Drew Spikes, seems to have accumulated a motley collection of old mates from previous bands to make up the current six piece line-up.
Johnny, Drew & Butch all used to be in Yakety Yak together back through the 70's, Drew & Mick used to be in Sonny King & the Sons Of Swing in the early 80's, Eddie Gentry was a member of the Jaguars for many years.
