The Mods started as 'Bob Mount and the Rocking Strings' and started their carreer at Aunty Mien at the Boerhaaveplein, Utrecht in November 1964.
At their first gigs The Rocking Strings played mainly Buddy Holly songs and songs from Gerry and the Pacemakers.

In May 1965 Utrecht beat group the Mods (not to be confused with the Mods from Nijmegen who recorded the soul cover “Land of One Thousand Dances”) evolved from the Rocking Strings.
The Mods consisted at that moment of Rob van den Berg (voc), Wim Beeken (guit), Gerard van Veenendaal (drums), Ben Stulen (organ) and Geert Hof (bas).
In June they recorded for VARA radio and in August played for two weeks in Germany.

Their first single was released in the middle of December: the Pretty Things cover “Don’t Bring Me Down,” b-side Them’s “Baby please don’t go” a  but played more or less in the style of Cliff Richard & The Shadows!

In December they played at the Beatsocieteit together with the upcoming Golden Earrings.
The band mainly played covers of songs by the Motions, Pretty Things, Them, Kinks, and Stones, with no Beatles and a sole original composition.

1966 was the top year for the Mods.
They had lots of work and released their second single.
In the summer they performed in France, in a small city south of Lille.

On May 20, 1967 the band played their last gig at the Rootie Tootie.
